Motivations For Stalking
According to Stalkers And Their Victims (here) research byPaul E. Mullen, Michele Pathé and Rosemary Purcell say that the “resentful” stalkers stalking “is designed to inflict fear and distress”.
According to the public prosecution services for Northern Ireland website here, they state;
There are many reasons why a person may stalk another and there is no such thing as a ‘typical’ stalking perpetrator.
The ‘Stalking Risk Profile’ – developed by Mullan et al of Melbourne University – assists investigators and prosecutors in understanding stalking behaviour and risk. This profile divides stalkers into five types and considers the context in which the stalking arises and the stalker’s motivation for contacting the victim:
The Rejected Stalker – Rejected stalking arises in the context of the breakdown of a close relationship. Victims are usually former sexual intimates; however, family members, close friends, or others with a very close relationship to the stalker can also become targets of Rejected stalking
The Resentful stalker – Resentful stalking arises when the stalker feels as though they have been mistreated or that they are the victim of some form of injustice or humiliation. Victims are strangers or acquaintances who are seen to have mistreated the stalker.
The Intimacy Seeking stalker – Intimacy seeking stalking arises out of a context of loneliness and a lack of a close confidante. Victims are usually strangers or acquaintances who become the target of the stalker’s desire for a relationship. Frequently Intimacy Seeking stalkers’ behaviour involves delusional beliefs about the victim, such as the belief that they are already in a relationship, even though none exists.
The Incompetent Suitor – The Incompetent suitor stalks in the context of loneliness or lust and targets strangers or acquaintances. Unlike the Intimacy Seeker, however, their initial motivation is not to establish a loving relationship, but to get a date or a short term sexual relationship. Incompetent Suitors usually stalk for brief periods, but when they do persist, their behaviour is usually maintained by the fact that they are blind or indifferent to the distress of the victim.
The Predatory Stalker – Predatory stalking arises in the context of deviant sexual practices and interests. Perpetrators are usually male and victims are usually female strangers in whom the stalker develops a sexual interest. The stalking behaviour is usually initiated as a way of obtaining sexual gratification (e.g., voyeurism targeting a single victim over time), but can also be used as a way of obtaining information about the victim as a precursor to a sexual assault, the most dangerous leading to serious attack.

Alice Walker was the only person to have gone near her grand-daughter Jodi Jones’ body and Alice had said she might have touched her grand-daughters forehead.

Janine Jones, Steven Kelly and Alice Walker were driven directly to Newbattle police station, they were not “droveabout” Dalkeith like killer Sean Toal stated and they didn’t go home until after they had been at the police station – where they were asked questions.

And they had stopped him, so as a result of the hunch they went to see him the following day

The evidence was that at 2.00pm on the day of the attack two community beat officers, after hearing the description of the attacker, had ‘immediately’ and ‘simultaneously’ named Malkinson as the suspect.
Why would anyone, having heard of the attacker’s ‘smart’ clothes, instantly think of the generally dishevelled Malkinson?
Secondly, two days later, on Monday 21 July, the officers saw Malkinson at work.

‘This is significant because the trial judge raised the question of whether the victim was mistaken about having scratched her attacker at all and told the jury that if she may have scratched her attacker then the person responsible for the attack cannot be the defendant
Dr Anderson’s mistake allowed the judge to suggest that the victim may have been mistaken in her account of scratching her attacker. This undermined an important defence point made by Mr Malkinson’s counsel at trial that the fact that Mr Malkinson was not injured or disfigured in anyway when he was seen by the police on the 25th of July, six days after the attack, meant that he could not have been the attacker’

It is not clear who was and is wrong in relation to the date Pc’s Chris Baybutt and Gary Waite visited Ellesmere shopping centre.
However it was reported that both Pc’s Baybutt and Waite were “recommended for a commendation” by Judge Michael Henshall, who presided over the February 2004 trial, for helping to bring violent rapist Andrew Malkinson to justice.

A Few Days After Killer Luke Mitchell’s 2003 Police Interview
Sandra Lean might want to remind herself of Grace McLean’s 22nd January 2005 Daily Mail article headed “I’msimplynotanormalteenager: EXCLUSIVE: Luke Mitchell’s chilling boast to the Mail“.
Journalist Grace McLean first met with killer Luke Mitchell and his mother Corinne Mitchell a few days after his section 14 interview which took place on the 14th of August 2003.
Grace McLean stated;
Iinterviewed Mitchell months before he had been charged with the murder of Jodi, and days after he had been questioned by detectives hunting for her killer

Grace McLean also met with killer Luke Mitchell “four weeks” before he was arrested in April 2004.
It appears killer Luke Mitchell orchestrated their meeting.
What is clear is that around this time the killer and his mother were courting the media, as is also evidenced by the Sky TV interview on the day of Jodi Jones funeral with James Matthews.

THE words coming out of his mouth were enough to chill the heart.
His voice flat and emotionless, Luke Mitchell was describing to me the moment he discovered the body of his girlfriend, mutilated and abandoned on the muddy earth.
For the schoolgirl who died an unspeakable death, horrifically mutilated, there was no expression of love from Luke Mitchell – and no tears.
This was Luke’s story in his own words – the account the jury never heard as the teenager never gave evidence during his trial.
“My torch lit up the path like daytime and I was about 12 yards from Jodi when I saw her lying there” he began.
“She was so white. Her throat had been slit and her head was to the side.
“Her eyes were staring up at me and she was naked but for a pair of socks, I think… no, she wasn’t wearing anything. Her body was so white and she was just staring and staring.
‘”I shouted to the others but I couldn’t tell them I’d found Jodi because I didn’t want to upset her gran, but she said she wanted to come over the wall.
‘The others held her back but she scrambled over the wall and said if her granddaugher was there she wanted to be with her.
“She sat down beside Jodi and cradled her in her arms.
I guess the family are suspicious of me because my dog Mia was the one who found Jodi and I was the one who first saw her lying there”
I interviewed Mitchell months before he had been charged with the murder of Jodi, and days after he had been questioned by detectives hunting for her killer.
Aged 15 at the time, the Luke Mitchell in front of me was an adult in everything but name.
Chain smoking and dressed in baggy jeans and a dark-coloured T-shirt, he exuded confidence bordering on arrogance.
Yet all the time his eyes flicked towards his mother Corinne, as if seeking reassurance from the woman with whom he obviously had an extra-special bond.
Mitchell and his mother were like a well-rehearsed double act.
As Corinne Mitchell ranted about the unfair treatment of her son, Mitchell would pace the floor as he vented his anger at the way the police had dealt with him.
Then his mother would touch him lightly on the arm and he would, as if by magic, calm down.
And as he gave his version of his whereabouts the night Jodi was brutally murdered, he constantly looked to her for reassurance, particularly when recalling the time he left the house to meet his girlfriend and the time he went on to meet his friends.
In the first moments of meeting Mitchell I was struck by how confident he was.
After a day at school he knew he was about to meet a journalist, but he walked into the room with a nonchalant air.
As I shook his hand, he gave me a cursory glance before sitting in a chair diagonally across from his mother.
It was clear he was a very sexually aware young man. I immediately felt uncomfortable as his eyes slowly looked me up and down. Mitchell may be a child but his sexuality, arrogance and misplaced maturity make him appear far older than his tender years.
There were a few flashes of childlike behaviour. But they only came as he was distracted by Mia – the dog he claimed picked up Jodi’s scent and led him to her body.
As his story unfolded, it was clear he was a master of manipulation. His story was just too word-perfect. It was also, as has now transpired, a tissue of lies.
This was a 15-year-old who never buckled once during interviews with some of Scotland’s most experienced policemen. The more police pushed him, the more arrogant he became.
He boasted to me: ‘After a few hours I told them, “charge me or let me go”.’
Mitchell leaned forward in his chair and stared intently at me as he told me how police had made his life ‘a misery’ and how they tried to relate to him through stories of rap star Eminem, shock rocker Marilyn Manson and pop singer Holly Valance.
He said: ‘The cops asked me about my relationship with Jodi’s friend Laura.
They kept asking me about the Eminem song Kim, the song where he fantasises about killing his wife.
“They asked me about the follow- up song in which Eminem sings about the “two of us”, meaning him and his daughter. They asked me about Laura and if I wanted it to be just the two of us and asked if that was why I killed Jodi”
“It was all rubbish. Jodi and I would still be together if she was here today”
Detectives were astonished by how arrogant Mitchell was during interviews. Even when confronted with evidence he remained defiant.
He seemed to realise police were trying to relate to him as a teenager and find some kind of common ground.
However, as Mitchell saw himself as an adult, he found the tactic amusing and gained a sense of confidence as the interrogation went on.
Mitchell took to pacing the floor again as he told me how he had ‘got really mad’ with police.
Clenching his fists he said: ‘I started to get really mad after about four hours and asked them to charge me if they had anything to charge me with.’ It was clear Mitchell enjoyed playing cat and mouse with detectives. He said: ‘ One copper stood, looked me straight in my face and said, “We’ve got you. We found your semen on her bra.
We’ve found sperm similar to yours.” I laughed and said, “If it’s similar, it’s not the same then, is it?” ‘ He told how detectives showed him a video reconstruction of how it would have been impossible for him to see Jodi’s body in the dark woods with only a torch – implying he must have known exactly where she was lying.
He said: ‘Jodi’s body was replaced with a tailor’s dummy and I pointed out to police that I could see a limb. That’ s when they switched the video off.’
But then, chillingly, he revealed that he, Jodi and their friend Laura had been talking about funeral arrangements a few nights before the murder.
He said: ‘What happened to Jodi was so ironic because the Thursday before she died we were all talking about what records we would want played at our funeral.’ I could picture him that night, talking in the bedroom with Jodi – taking a perverse pleasure in knowing the fate that awaited her.
He said police took a lock knife from him after being tipped off by friends.
But he added:
‘The bloke who said this is a fantasist. Another of his friends told police Jodi and I were arguing all the time. But that’s not true. We never had a cross word”
Mitchell also denied he was taunting police when he left a note with flowers for Jodi which quoted from Kurt Cobain’s journals:
“The finest day I ever had was when tomorrow never came”
He said: “The only reason I left it was because she loved that line. I wanted to be with Jodi and nobody else”
It was the first time in our interview that Mitchell spoke of any affection for Jodi.
But then, to change the subject, he spent ten minutes talking about newly learned computer skills – just like any other teenage boy – before asking his mother for the keys to her 4×4 Land Rover.
Then, nonchalantly, he walked outside, started up the engine and drove at high speeds around nearby waste ground.
It seemed, yet again, that Mitchell was playing at being an adult.
When he returned, he told his mother he was going to see his friend Laura and, since it was on my way, I offered to give Mitchell a lift.
In the car, he said very little about Jodi, continuing to talk about his computer course. When the car came to a standstill, he leaned over and gave me a hug before jumping out.
Just four weeks later, he was arrested for Jodi’s murder.
I truly believe Mitchell thought he could get away with it.
As we parted, he couldn’t resist having the final word.
A last gesture, and his last chance to goad the police:
“I was never going to break down in public – I’m not that kind of bloke”

Driving His Mother Corinne Mitchell’s 4×4 Land Rover & Had A Job
Not only had killer Luke Mitchell driven before he was sent to prison he also “had a job”.
He worked for his mother Corinne Mitchell and grandmother Ruby Guetta at Scott’s caravans in Mayfield.
Scammer Sandra Lean has previously acknowledge this fact, including in 2015 here, where she stated about the killer;
Con-artist Sandra Lean made the following allegations in her bogus thesis which she submitted to the university of Stirling in 2012.
In what Sandra Lean referred to as the “fulfilment of the requirements of the university of Stirling for the degree of doctor of philosophy”, Sandra Lean alleged;
Because of developments in the above case (with which I remained involved throughout the duration of the study), an internet “hate campaign‟ emerged aiming to discredit me, personally, and the case in particular.
Many lies were posted on several sites, calling my integrity and trustworthiness into question, which may have had some impact on those who had initially expressed an interest in participating in the study failing to respond to later attempts at contact.
As a result of these events, and the unregulated manner in which sites were operated, the lies and malicious comments escalated fairly quickly into threats, both veiled and blatant.
These events raised several issues regarding the whole approach to the study, and the effects of these events on my abilities to maintain an impartial and unbiased approach to data collection and analysis.
Of particular concern were dishonest claims that I had previously misled individuals whose cases were highlighted in a book I had written, by leading them to believe I was collecting their stories for a PhD study.
The potentially negative impacts for the study (access to wrongly accused/convicted persons and their families, campaigners, etc) were greatly eased by existing contacts, with whom relationships of trust and respect had previously been built, making contact with potential participants, reassuring them that the “hate campaign‟ was malicious and dishonest, and that I was trustworthy, with no “ulterior motives,‟ as had been suggested.
It was as a result of these people’s kindness and integrity that the part of the study covering Scottish cases was able to be conducted to the extent it was, and the effects of the “hate campaign‟ so successfully minimised.
Clearance for the research proposal was received from the Ethics Committee of the Department of Applied Social Science, University of Stirling, and the study was carried out within the Code of Ethics of the British Society of Criminology (see Appendix V).

The case Sandra Lean was referring to was that of sadistic murderer Luke Mitchell, who committed his first murder less than a month shy of his 15th birthday – on the 30th of June 2003.
In reality guilty killer Luke Mitchell and scammer Sandra Lean’s innocence fraud scam was being exposed, which demonstrated Sandra Lean had zero credibility or integrity and she could not be trusted as a reliable source.
However Stirling university seemingly failed to recognise and address this fact.
Sandra Lean told numerous bare faced lies about many cases and individual’s and the ‘internet “hate campaign” she alleged was her own, aimed at other people, in which Sandra attempted to “discredit” many people – especially those who saw through her and her former boyfriend and co-director of the WAP organisation, un-convicted baby killer Billy Middleton.
And contrary to what Sandra Lean alleged in her bogus thesis (and online) Sandra Lean was not only unable to remain impartial, her entire approach to re-examining murder cases was biased in favour of the disturbed and dangerous actual, factual, guilty killers (and other criminals) she deeply desired to free from prison, or portray those individuals who had stood trial and been found “not proven”, as innocent victims of a criminal justice system run amok.
Stirling University’s Lack Of Ethical Governance
Before submitting her bogus thesis to Stirling university Sandra Lean made the following statement;
Interviews for the PhD must be kept anonymous, and are a completely separate issue from any books.
This is made absolutely clear to anyone who is participating in the research.
Furthermore, cases which have been featured in the book cannot be used for the PhD.
“Cases” Sandra Lean wrote about in her first, now withdrawn, innocence fraud book were used in her bogus PhD thesis.
Something Stirling university again appear to have failed to recognise and/or address.
Where is this “documented evidence” Sandra Lean referred to and what exactly did it say?
Sandra Lean’s first discredited innocence fraud book No Smoke was also referenced throughout Sandra’s bogus thesis – which again was the same book Sandra had allegedly withdrawn from publication in October 2019.
“Allegedly” because Sandra Lean’s book No Smoke was still being sold in December 2022, some 3 years later!
Stirling university also appear to have failed to recognise the cases Sandra Lean claimed she had studied were not in fact “offactually innocent persons” but of actually, factuallyguilty persons, like for example dangerous and psychopathic murderer and predator Simon Hall.
Stirling university also failed to recognise and/or address the very real innocence fraud phenomenon and enablers like Sandra Lean.
Who, by also using her bogus PhD, attempted to re-write history, re-brand dangerous and psychopathic murderers and predators into ‘factuallyinnocentpersons’ and cause no end of psychological harm and suffering to innocent peoples lives in the process.
Sandra Lean’s Diabolical & Harmful Behaviour
On the 4th of December 2008 Sandra Lean attended a protest in Edinburgh, where she carried a banner which included a photograph of one of the psychopathic mass murderers and terrorists of the 21st of December 1988 Pan Am flight 103 Boeing 747 aircraft bomb.
Abdelbaset al-Megrahi’s photograph can be seen in the top left hand corner of Sandra Lean’s banner in the below photograph;
The bomb planted on the Boeing 747 aircraft went off whilst in flight over the Scottish town of Lockerbie.
All 243 passengers were killed, as well as 16 crew members and 11 residents of Lockerbie, who were on the ground.

In 2009 Sandra Lean came into contact with un-convicted baby killer, sexual deviant, abusive predator and con-artist Billy Middleton – who was referred to in Part 18b of this blog series;

Sandra Lean purchased the old red post office van and ripped the seats out of the back of the van and made a makeshift bed and MDF wooden seating area in place of the original seats.
Billy Middleton would go on to refer to the van on his social media as “hotel justisica”.
Sandra Lean made reference to the former postal van as a “camper van” in her 2012 thesis stating;

Sandra Lean included un-convicted baby killer, sexual deviant, abusive predator and con-artist Billy Middleton as one of her “casestudies” for her bogus PhDthesis, as can be seen on page 186 (Read more here Hidden In Plain View).
Sandra Lean had previously misrepresent Billy Middleton and falsely claimed baby Annalise’s murder was “accidental”.
Sandra Lean attempted to rebrand un-convicted baby killer Billy Middleton as “an innocentman’’ and posted the following on an Internet forum, which further demonstrated her obvious bias, hypocrisy and inability to remain impartial;
I have, until now, chosen to ignore the personal comments posted here, on the grounds that they are of no bearing on the discussions at hand.
This latest post, however, leaves me no option but to respond. Mr Middleton was acquitted.
Much of what you post here is the same sensationalist media garbage that plays such a huge part in convicting innocent people.
I note you fail to mention that Mr Middleton set up an organisation to help other wrongly accused people, www.wronglyaccusedperson.org.uk and has devoted himself to that organisation since being acquitted.
I was honoured to be asked to join that organisation, and am proud to be part of it.
How you can attempt to pass yourself off as a champion of those suffering injustice, when you can stoop to these depths to smear an INNOCENT man, in your attempts to discredit me, is beyond me and, I suspect, any right thinking person.
Did you at any point stop to think about the appalling suffering you would cause Mr Middleton? Using the tragic accidental death of a baby, and the terrible grief of an entire family, to score points in a petty campaign to rubbish me is unforgivable.
Shame on you, Mr Beck.
It will, of course, be for Mr Middleton to decide whether he wishes to take legal action regarding the content and intention of this post.
On page 110 of her bogus thesis Sandra Lean stated;
Ensuring that potential participants understood that the study could not, in any way, assist individual cases was imperative
But this is exactly what Sandra Lean’s bogus thesis and online manipulation was designed to do, as is evident by many her deceptive statements.
To date Billy Middleton has failed to prove he did not deliberately start the two fires in his home in Lerwick, Shetland in September 2008.
And Billy Middleton’s behaviour towards his then wife suggested he was using coercive control, which did not become illegal in Scotland until 2018.
If coercive control had been recognised as a criminal offence at the time of Billy Middleton’s trial for murder, two counts of attempted murder and a count of sexual assault it’s highly likely he would have been found guilty – as opposed to not proven.
No one trashes your name, more than someone who is afraid you will tell the truth
Scott C Forbes
Scott C Forbes has chosen to “trash” Mark Kane’s name, and many other peoples names, not because these people are “afraid” as he claims, but because Scott C Forbes thinks he is entitled to do this.
Scott C Forbes also thinks he is entitled to say or write whatever he wants about the family members of Jodi Jones.
All of whom were ruled out as suspects!
Scott C Forbes’s “trashes” the name of anyone he chooses to target or who disagrees with the trash he chooses to talk and write about.
There will be more on Scott C Forbes statement “No one trashes your name, more than someone who is afraid you will tell the truth” in further parts of this blog series.
However to reiterate from Part 1 here, Scott C Forbes has chosen to not publish a copy of his witness statement, which he made about Mark Kane – which is a massive red flag!
There are numerous red flags regarding Scott C Forbes behaviour, far too many to count.
Scott C Forbes showed no real interest in Jodi Jones’ sadistic and psychopathic killer’s innocence fraud until around 2006.
If Scott C Forbes was really concerned about his “friend” Mark Kane’s behaviour, why did he leave it so many years before he finally tracked down and spoke to Jodi Jones’ killer’s mother Corinne Mitchell?
And why did Scott C Forbes choose to speak with Jodi Jones killers mother?
If Scott C Forbes was so sure Mark Kane was responsible, why didn’t he speak to the police?
Why did Scott C Forbes wait so many years before speaking out?
And why did Scott C Forbes only jump on Jodi Jones’ killer, and his enablers, fraudulent public relations innocence fraud spin campaign in/around 2006?
More importantly, why did Scott C Forbes contact the former RUC officer on the “confidentialhotlinenumber” here when he did (as referred to in Part 1here) and why wasn’t Scott seemingly speaking to Sandra Lean?
Again, where is the hard evidence that Scott C Forbes has ever been a practicing lawyer in Scotland? Has anyone bothered to ask him to provide documentation to back up his numerous assertions?
Instead of publishing his own statement, what Scott C Forbes has chosen to do is manufacture stories, seemingly from his warped imagination (or the warped imagination of others) and has attempted to attribute these manufactured stories to people like Mark Kane – who passed away in May 2018.
Mark Kane obviously cannot defend himself against Scott C Forbes false allegations, manufactured stories and preposterous nonsense.
Is the reason he hasn’t published his statement, because Scott C Forbes knows the content will cast yet further doubt on his false, malicious and manufactured allegations.
Many of the people who have chosen to listen to, or read, Scott C Forbes false and malicious claims and manufactured stories, know very little about Scott’s history and previous actions in murderer Luke Mitchell’s fraudulent public relations spin campaign.
Scott C Forbes stated;
Reading statements from staff at Newbattle Abbey College I couldn’t believe just how pathetic the police were.
One statement from an English teacher, Ms. McGillivray, who was asked if she had a copy of an essay about a man killing a ‘woman in the woods’ written by Mark Kane, denied having one and this somehow confirmed Kane wrote no such essay.
John Beckett, QC argued to the appeal court that a lecturer who receives thousands of essays in her career and who couldn’t remember receiving one essay, “confirmed Kane wrote no such essay”. This wasn’t even challenged by the defence.
Total Lack of Reasoning
It is not surprising Scott C Forbes appears unable to recognise his own lack of reasoning.
However it is unlikely a female English teacher, or any female, who could have read and received “thousands of essays in her career” would forget about one of her students writing an essay about “a man killing a woman in the woods”.
It is also not surprising why someone like Scott C Forbes does not appear able to recognise or understand why an essay by a student about “a man killing a woman in the woods” would stand out to most females reading it.

According to another tweet made by Scott C Forbes, he claimed Mark Kane was “onmethadone, valluim, speed, hash and alcohol on day Jodie was murdered” (sic);
Does the footage of Mark Kane from the Newbattle Abbey college promotional video here look like he was clean from drugs, like his mother Norma stated in 2021;
OK, he was a drug addict years ago but he was turning his life around.
He got off the drugs completely and was accepted into college.
In reality, it sounds like Mark Kane may have got drunk on that particular night and might of fallen over and got a “tiny” scratch on his face from falling.
All of this I reported to the police. Just to set a couple of things straight I never had big cuts on my face the day after the murder I had a tiny scratch is all, he did not drive me to the police station the day after

If Scott C Forbes has nothing to hide, he would have no problems publishing his witness statement in full, with no redactions, so the public can see for themselves what he told police.

Behaviour Patterns of A Sexually Deviant & Dangerous Adolescent Killer
Murderer Luke Mitchell didn’t have any real hobbies around the time he chose to commit his murder, instead he appears to have been fixated on having sex with numerous girls and threatening and harming them with knives.
Some people reading this may view this as normal behaviour for a 14 year old boy, and some people reading this may think it’s normal for a 12 year old boy to threaten an 11 year old girl with a knife for a kiss.
It isn’t and it’s disturbing!
These patterns of behaviour in a young boy are not normal, and alarm bells should be ringing loudly, especially to all the parents with young children of their own, who have chosen to blindly support murderer Luke Mitchell’s fraudulent public relations campaign.
None of the people who are blindly being taken in by Scott C Forbes stories, have the knowledge of all of the intimate details and behaviour patterns of murderer Luke Mitchell.
A few photos of the killer as a young child with a pony, does not paint the picture of the murderer he was turning into.
He had a fixation with knives and a sexually deviant streak.
He had been showing signs of sexual aggression since at least the age of 12.
You won’t hear about these behaviour patterns from people like Scott C Forbes, because he chooses to play down these behaviours patterns, and pretends they didn’t happen.

The above wasn’t an isolated incident.
Showing signs of sexual aggression at the age of 12, and holding a knife to an 11 year old girls throat to coerce her into submission for a kiss, is a violent act.
Other young girls made similar allegations, which demonstrated a pattern of behaviour that was developing over time.
The sadistic, adolescent murderer was seeing several girls at the same time, and playing them off against each other.
A Killers ‘Well Being’ & His ‘Token of Remembrance’

Many types of criminals will keep “trophies” or “Souvenirs” as a memento of their crime.
In most cases these same items will be used against them later as evidence and direct links to their involvement of the crimes.
But why do criminals do this? It seems like a strange thing to do especially in cases where the person has made extra efforts in other areas not to get caught, such as clearing evidence from the crime scene that may link them to it, or disposing of other evidence such as the weapon used or clothing worn during the crime itself.
Well the answer to this has many reasons behind it, and the types of trophies kept will vary from criminal to criminal.
Humans as a species are known to collect items we put value onto. This value can vary from sentimental or sexual value to monetary value.
Many adults will collect things that remind them of their childhood for example or will have a passion or hobby for something that requires them to accumulate a collection over time such as a coin or card collection.
A person may have no real use for such items to get them through daily life, however having these items will give them a sense of well-being.
This is a permanent reminder of the events leading up to that persons death, its a personal connection to them for the Killer and in many ways is symbolic of the perceived relationship they have with their victims.
Their successful crimes are achievements, in the eyes of a criminal they are worth remembering and what better way to remember than to keep a piece of it for yourself that you can look back on and relive the moment.
The items are valuable to the criminal in some way, as discussed above it could be to relive the moment, it could be for pride to display, it could be for gratification or even comfort.
