It was a crude deception and he was found out when he approached a woman who seemed to be having difficulties with her husband.

He took her address and visited her the next day but her son became suspicious and called the police.

Countless Attacks On Women

Below are excerpts from a media article describing some of Barry George’s behaviour on one of his countless victims;

June Elvin

In March 1980 an actress called June Elvin, who had appeared in Ealing films and the police series Z Cars, was confronted by a man as she walked into the entrance hall of her block of flats in Barons Court, west London.

“He pulled open one side of the gates to the lift, I did the other,” she said.

“It was a tiny lift with only room for two. Halfway up he stopped the lift and attacked me. He tried to touch me, to put his hand up my skirt. I screamed and shouted and fought back”

The man fled when a friend of Ms Elvin’s heard the commotion and ran to help.

Though he was acquitted of this offence in June 1981, George was convicted of assaulting another woman.

According to reports of this case, George followed the civil servant and asked her out.

When she rejected him, he grabbed her breasts and tried to put his hand up her skirt. He received a three-month suspended prison sentence.

Uncle Mike Burke (also spelt Bourke) claimed of his nephew;

He was then training with the Territorial Army.

He called to visit me one evening at my place in Shepherds Bush, dressed in army gear and carrying a large kitbag.

He told me that he had to report to barracks due to the war. I walked him to the bus stop which was next to my local pub, the Askew Arms.

He wanted to come in with me but I lied and told him that it was full of mad Irish who would attack him because of his uniform.

I was relieved when the bus came and he was gone.

Barry George remained with the territorial army until November 1982, attending a total of “29 voluntary training days” between the end of 1981 and end of 1982.

In February, 1982, George approached a 20-year-old languages student outside Turnham Green Tube station in west London.

She thought he was a harmless eccentric.

He walked with her and tried to impress her by saying “How are you?” in German.

In a dark stairwell outside her parent’s flat in Acton, George attacked her.

He clamped his hand over her mouth and pushed her arm behind her back.

Terrified she was going to suffocate, she pleaded with him to let her go, but he continued, forcing her to the ground and pulling at her clothing.

The woman, who is now married with two children, claimed she was raped.

1985 – Following His Release From Prison Barry George Began Using The Alias Thomas Palmer, Going On To Meet Janice Dobbins & Her 13 Year Old Son David Dobbins, Along With Susan Coombe

On his release from prison for his February 1982 rape, Barry George ended up living in a bed and breakfast hostel called Stanhope Gardens Hotel, which was located in Kensington, West London. He also lived at the Conrad hotel in Gloucester Road under the alias Thomas Palmer, who was the name of an SAS soldier involved in the rescue of hostages from the Iranian embassy siege of 1980 (Source Here)

A media article stated;

Killer Barry George

Statements from Janice Dobbins, who is now dead but knew George in the Eighties when he lived at the Stanhope Gardens hotel in Kensington, were read to the court today.

At that time George called himself Thomas Palmer, the name of a real-life SAS hero.

Mrs Dobbins told how she was in the hotel TV room with other guests when “all of a sudden from behind the curtain a man jumped out wearing combat gear, a gas mask, a ski mask, a belt with shotgun cartridges and holding a small machine gun about 2ft long in both hands. I screamed and jumped off the sofa. He ran but I recognised it was Thomas. Everyone went mad and started swearing at him. He just laughed.”

She said George would regularly dress in combat gear and carry the gun around the hotel. He claimed he was a member of the SAS and had helped to free the hostages in the Iranian embassy siege of 1980.

George kept in touch with her after she moved to Fulham. “One night about 2am I was having drinks in the flat with friends when the window opened and a gun was pushed through into the living room,” she said.

“I saw a figure holding it and just knew it was Thomas. He was wearing a ski mask … Everybody screamed and panicked and the figure left.”

Mrs Dobbins continued: “I was aware he would go to Kensington Park, Hyde Park and Holland Park where he followed women.

He would be in my company and then just go off and follow women and I would not see him again until he was back at the hotel.

“This did not surprise me because he would often go up to women in the street and start chatting.

“He would hand out business-type cards and at one stage printed leaflets offering his services teaching English to Japanese girls.”

Excerpts from Paul Cheston’s article for the Evening Standard headed Dando suspect ‘leapt out with machine gun to startle hotel guests’ dated 12th June 2008

Another media article stated;

By 1985 he had collected several pieces of military equipment, including an imitation Heckler Koch machine gun, a starting pistol and a gas mask.

A friend he allowed into his room at a bed and breakfast in Kensington saw a third weapon, a polished silver pistol, carefully wrapped in tissue paper and kept in a shoe box.

This gun has never been found.

Barry George’s uncle Mike Burke stated;

Susan Coombe lived at an address which Barry also lived at in 1985.

She described how he had replica guns which he showed to people.

But she also said that there was a silver gun which he kept concealed in a shoebox.

She claimed that he admitted to her that he followed women to see if they were single.

Susan also confirmed that the photo of the man posing with the gun and gasmask was taken inside Barry’s home.

Excerpts from uncle Mike Burke’s book Mikes Story: The Battle to Clear Barry George of the Jill Dando Murder published in October 2016

July 1985 – Sister Susan George Married Edward Derek Towler

1986 – Barry George Crept Up On Janice Dobbins With A Gun In Her Pelham Street, Fulham Home, On Another Occasion He Also Fired A Handgun Into The Dobbins Home

A media article stated;

The police had found advertisements in his flat for deactivated weapons showing where they could be bought

A photograph of him wearing a gasmask and holding a handgun, finger on trigger was found by police.

There was a break in the gun exposing a spring.

That was said to show that he had an interest in altering guns.

Barry denied during police questioning that it was him in the photograph, and claimed the gun; a blank firing replica was stolen by his friend David Dobbins.

In evidence David Dobbins described an incident where Barry discharged a blank firing pistol at David’s mother’s house, frightening him.

Excerpts from uncle Mike Burke’s book Mikes Story: The Battle to Clear Barry George of the Jill Dando Murder published in October 2016

Another article stated;

A witness has told the jury in the Jill Dando murder trial that the alleged killer of the TV presenter once owned two guns.

David Dobbins, who said he was once a friend of the defendant, Barry George, claimed the alleged killer fired a handgun into his hallway while visiting.

“I was at my front door. I opened it. He came in and let it off. It was a surprise for me,” Mr Dobbins told the Old Bailey on Friday.

Mr Dobbins said he had also seen military equipment, including a pistol and imitation sub-machine gun, in Barry George’s room when they shared bed and breakfast accommodation in the 1980s.

Mr Dobbins, who was 13 when they were at the same B&B hotel in 1985, said George had been protective about his room.

He said he had also seen military equipment, combat clothing, webbing, a gas mask and knives in Mr George’s room.

Mr Dobbins said he was living in a basement flat with his family when Mr George, who also goes by the name of Barry Bulsara, fired the gun in the hallway.

He had opened the door and Mr George pushed his way in holding the firearm in his right hand.

He said that Mr George’s gun had blanks in it, but the defendant also showed him a box of live ammunition.

“He was trying to frighten us – playing some sort of prank. It was pretty scary.

“He was very possessive and would not let us touch it,” Mr Dobbins told the court.

Susan Coombe, who was at the same hotel at the time Mr George had stayed, remembered him showing two guns to residents in the lounge.

Ms Coombe said: “He said he was with the SAS. He showed us a card with a picture of him in a beige beret with a handgun and SAS emblem of a dagger and two wings.

“He did not like people in his room. He was very interested in guns. He would talk about guns all the time.”

Staking, Intimidation & Harassment Of Angela Gordon, Amanda Scriven & Claudia Casey

Angela Gordon, told police how George approached her as she opened the door to her flat opposite his home and asked: ‘Do you live here?’ He allegedly told her he was in the SAS and asked to kiss her. Miss Gordon rebuffed his advances and fled into her home. A photograph of her car was later found on undeveloped film at George’s home.

Another woman, Amanda Scriven, claimed that George would follow her on his bike as she walked from Parsons Green tube station. He did it in a manner ‘designed to intimidate’ and refused to stop, even when challenged. Mr Laidlaw said: ‘On one occasion, he held a camera to Miss Scriven’s face and took pictures until she pushed it away.’

Mr Laidlaw said a woman named Claudia Casey was also targeted in the street by George. ‘She tried to get away from him by walking more quickly but he grabbed her arm and said, “But I only want to talk”. She was terrified and jumped into the passenger seat of a passing car and explained to the driver what had gone on.’

Murderer, Prolific Sexual Predator & Fraudster Barry George Seemingly Duped Tubitt Scaffolding Into Sponsoring Him #Netflix #WhoKilledJillDando? (Part 13)

Killer Barry George as Steve Francis Majors on 17th September 1981 at Nottingham’s Long Eaton stadium

Did Barry George Work For Tubitt Scaffolding For Cash In Hand

In 1981 killer Barry George duped Alan Warrener, who owned Tubitt Scaffolding, into sponsoring him.

Barry George had changed his name by deed poll to Steve Francis Majors and had allegedly posed as a stuntman.

It is not known how Barry George met Alan Warriner or if he worked for Tubitt Scaffolding around the time.

However in September 1981 Alan’s business Tubitt Scaffolding built the platform which was used by sexual predator and fraudster Barry George to roller state over four double decker buses.

Barry George had also concocted a convincing fake CV (curriculum vitae) in which he had pretended to have starred in the films Rollerball and Who Dares Wins.

The event took place in Nottingham’s Long Eaton Stadium on the 17th September 1981 and apparently over 5,000 tickets were sold.

Alan Warriner stated of Barry George;

The lad had convinced me he could do it.

He showed me photos supposedly of him doing stunts – and I honestly believed it was him.

On the day the conditions were so bad I begged him not to do the jump I thought he’d die up there.

When he finally got up on the ramp, he almost lost his nerve.

We were all terrified.

But he just pushed himself off knowing that there was no going back.

How Much Money Did Barry George’s Grift Earn Him?

It is not known how much money Barry George made from this event or if he ever attempted to sue anyone for the injuries he suffered after rolling stating over the four double decker buses.

On landing, after his roller skating stunt, it was found Barry George had dislocated his spine and had fractured a leg.

It was a crude deception and he was found out when he approached a woman who seemed to be having difficulties with her husband.

He took her address and visited her the next day but her son became suspicious and called the police.

Countless Attacks On Women

Below are excerpts from a media article describing some of Barry George’s behaviour on one of his countless victims;

A media article stated;

Another media article stated;

Barry George’s uncle Mike Burke stated;

July 1985 – Sister Susan George Married Edward Derek Towler

1986 – Barry George Crept Up On Janice Dobbins With A Gun In Her Pelham Street, Fulham Home, On Another Occasion He Also Fired A Handgun Into The Dobbins Home

A media article stated;

Another article stated;

Will The Court Of Appeal Judges Address The Misleading Evidence Presented To Them In Relation To Violent Rapist & Convicted Fraudster Andrew Malkinson (Part 29)

As already pointed out in Part 27 of this ongoing blog series, which can be read by tapping on the button below;

Misleading evidence was presented to the three judges presiding over the appeal hearing of violent rapist and convicted fraudster Andrew Malkinson.

Saturday 19th July 2003: Was the date of Andrew Malkinson’s Violent Attack & Rapes

Sunday 20th July 2003: Was the date Edward Henry claimed to the appeal judges police constables (Pc’s) Chris Baybutt & Gary Waite visited Andrew Malkinson at work

Your lordships the very next morning, purely as a result of a hunch, when the description of the attacker had been recited to them, the night before at the scene, police constable Waite and police constable Baybutt, on hearing the description of the attacker said ‘that’s Andrew Malkinson’ because about a month before they had stopped him erm, he hadn’t committed any offence, but he was seen riding pillion on the back of a young Mr Hardman’s moped

And they had stopped him, so as a result of the hunch they went to see him the following day

Immediately the day after the attack at his place of work

Monday 21st July 2003: Said to be the date the VICTIM in this case gave her police witness statement

Monday 21st July 2003: Was the date Andrew Malkinson stated in 2016 (via writer Bob Woffinden) that Pc’s Baybutt & Waite visited him at work

The evidence was that at 2.00pm on the day of the attack two community beat officers, after hearing the description of the attacker, had ‘immediately’ and ‘simultaneously’ named Malkinson as the suspect.

Why would anyone, having heard of the attacker’s ‘smart’ clothes, instantly think of the generally dishevelled Malkinson?

Secondly, two days later, on Monday 21 July, the officers saw Malkinson at work.

Excerpts by Bob Woffinden’s taken from chapter 5 of his book The Nicholas cases

Friday 25th July 2003: The date the CCRC submitted to the appeal court judges that Pc’s Baybutt & Waite visited Andrew Malkinson at work

My learned friend and the respondent says that the commission has over stated this matter

In fact actually if we go to the statement of reason, eh and if I may ask you, and if I do erm ask you very briefly my lords to go to page 114, eh and eh paragraph 165

Forgive me 164, this is what the commission said

‘This is significant because the trial judge raised the question of whether the victim was mistaken about having scratched her attacker at all and told the jury that if she may have scratched her attacker then the person responsible for the attack cannot be the defendant

Dr Anderson’s mistake allowed the judge to suggest that the victim may have been mistaken in her account of scratching her attacker. This undermined an important defence point made by Mr Malkinson’s counsel at trial that the fact that Mr Malkinson was not injured or disfigured in anyway when he was seen by the police on the 25th of July, six days after the attack, meant that he could not have been the attacker’

With the greatest respect to my learned friend but also to the commission, erm the commission erm got that wrong

It was the very next day

Who Was & Is Wrong?

It is not clear who was and is wrong in relation to the date Pc’s Chris Baybutt and Gary Waite visited Ellesmere shopping centre.

However it was reported that both Pc’s Baybutt and Waite were “recommended for a commendation” by Judge Michael Henshall, who presided over the February 2004 trial, for helping to bring violent rapist Andrew Malkinson to justice.
