Killer Barry George Admitted His Guilt To His Murder In 2002 #Netflix #WhoKilledJillDando? (Part 24)

HMP Belmarsh

Killer Barry George’s uncle Mike Burke stated in his book;

Belmarsh is a holding prison for prisoners awaiting trial so shortly after his conviction Barry was moved to HMP Whitemoor, in Cambridgeshire.

Mike Burke

2002 – HMP Whitemoor

Referring to the 7th April 2002 Mike Burke stated;

Uncle Mike Burke

On Sunday April 7th I heard on BBC Radio 4 news that the News of the World had a cassette tape of Barry apparently confessing to the murder.

I bought the paper and read the story which I found difficult to believe.

It alleged that Barry said to other prisoners ‘…because I was the man who committed the murder’.

I phoned the number given and listened to the tape recording which sounded like Barry though the sound quality was very poor.

I had warned him that something like that could happen.

The source of the tape was a by then deported Polish thief who claimed he used his tape recorder to record fellow prisoner’s music.

Mike Burke from his book Mike’s Story: The Battle to Clear Barry George of the Murder of Jill Dando first published in June 2011

Excerpts from the Irish Examiner read;

Detectives are set to study a tape on which Barry George is claimed to admit murdering Jill Dando.

The News of the World reports George was recorded by a fellow prisoner during a conversation.

George was convicted last year of the BBC presenter’s murder but has always maintained his innocence.

His appeal against the conviction will be heard soon.

On the tape a voice asks:

“Why did the police arrest you in the first place, do you think?”

Another voice, said to be George’s, replies:

“Why? Because I, I was the person who committed the murder.”

There is no confirmation yet that the voice is George’s and the dialogue on the tape is muffled, indistinct and even inaudible in parts.

It is also said to contain an involved discussion about the timing of alibis and the nature of the trial judge’s directions to the jury, reports The News of the World .

The tape is said to have been recorded accidentally by Rafal Gutarewicz while he and George were in Whitemoor Prison.

He was trying to record himself playing a keyboard and accidentally left the tape running.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said:

“We will study any potential new evidence carefully. We are not prepared to discuss the issue further while the case is subject to appeal.”

Gary Thompson (32) and John Weston (29) were shot and killed on the 10th of October 1990 in the front garden of the house Gary Thompson lived in with his wife and children in Oadby, Leicestershire.

Gary Thompson
John Weston

Gary Thompson ran a successful hot dog and burger van fast food business and his friend John Weston worked alongside him.

Psychopath Warren Slaney and Terence Burke stole up to £60,000 of bank holidays takings from Gary Thompson’s Bentley motor vehicle after shooting dead Gary Thompson and John Weston.

Innocence fraud killer Warren Slaney’s co-defendant Terence Burke attempted to pretend that victim Gary Thompson “was in on the raid” as part of an insurance scam.

However it was established Gary Thompson was uninsured.

In 2000 killer Warren Slaney made allegations here that staff at Woodhill prison had “attacked” him “at least six times” and in 2011 Private Eye magazine published an article headed The Hot Dog Hit in which it stated;

Slaney’s case has now been taken up by the University of Bristol Innocence Project where law students investigate claims of injustice

Excerpt from a Private Eye magazine article headed The Hot Dog Hit dated 11th September 2011

Another article on psychopathic innocence fraud killer Warren Slaney stated;

The campaign has the support of Dr Michael Naughton of The Innocence Project based at Bristol University who showed that miscarriages of justice were costing the public purse as much as £200m a year in 2002.

Source here

Someone called Russ Spring was also involved in the innocence fraud public relations spin campaign and was referred to in 2005 here as a “campaign support worker for the Miscarriages of Justice Organisation”.

Russ Spring from Mojo said: “We feel that the scale of the inquiry that is needed into his conviction really is beyond the scope of the Criminal Case Review Commission and they need to appoint an independent outside investigators.

The Surjit Singh Clair Effect

Referring to just after killer Barry George was released from custody in 2008 following his retrial, his uncle Mike Burke stated;

It was now open season on Barry and the press set about destroying any hope of him settling into any kind of normal life in his home city of London.

I watched dispassionately as his reputation, such as it was, nosedived over the last days of 2008 under a welter of tabloid fantasy.

They ran stories on what he ate, what bookshops he visited, his temporary accommodation.

They claimed incorrectly that he was stalking a nurse, that Sky’s Kay Burley was frightened sick by him, that he was interested in Cheryl Cole of X Factor, that he was involved with the partner of a convicted killer etc.

To make things even better a ‘spokesman’ for him allegedly confirmed some of those manufactured stories.

Pat Reynolds said to me one day: ‘with friends like those who needs enemies?’

Excerpts from Mike Burke’s book Mike’s Story: The Battle to Clear Barry George of the Murder of Jill Dando first published in June 2011

The “spokesman” Mike Burke referred to was Surjit Singh Clair.

Read more on Surjit Singh Clair here, here and here.

Michelle Diskin Bates chose to omit to tell the readers of her book the fact that Surjit Singh Clair was a convicted fraudster who attempted “to obtain property by deception by selling the story of the bogus attack to a national newspaper”.

False Phone Monitoring Allegations & Pam Wright

Referring to Surjit Singh Clair and some of the various news stories regarding her psychopathic killer brother, Michelle Diskin Bates stated;

It was arranged that Barry would travel from London to Birmingham, where he would be met by volunteers from MOJO.

They would take him to a secret location and keep him safe.

In two days, he and a volunteer, Russ, would meet me in Leeds.

When Russ returned to his family, Surj would take over, taking Barry along to a meeting he was having at another hotel.

We really hoped that all of these precautions would mean Barry would not appear in any more disgraceful headlines, but no.

They were being followed everywhere, even camping outside of Russ’ home looking for Barry, though they were not there.

Russ’ wife and family felt intimidated by the media’s presence.

The only way they could have known about Russ was if our phones were being monitored.

Of course, this was all before the Leveson Inquiry and the News of the World’s well-earned downfall. Story upon story was published.

There was one story that alleged Barry had terrified a nurse in the hospital carpark, and that he was in an agitated state demanding drugs at the hospital.

The truth was that he was with Russ and they had gone to A&E to replace Barry’s epilepsy meds, as he’d had to abandon his supply at the flat when the police came.

Another story alleged that he was now obsessed with Cheryl Cole as well as Kay Burley, and that he was dating a convict’s wife, the person Surj went to a business meeting with!

Statements by Michelle Diskin Bates from her book Stand Against Injustice published in October 2018

Surjit Singh Clair accompanied Pam Wight, who had been groomed, conned and exploited by serial killer Steve Wight, during her February 2008 Sky news interview with Kay Burley.

It was during this interview where Kay Burley asked Pam Wright;

Do you think if you’d had a better sex life, he wouldn’t have done this?

Kay Burley – February 2008

A December 2008 media article stated of killer Barry George;

He is also reportedly besotted with Pam Wright, the fiancée of Suffolk Strangler Steve Wright.

Excerpt from a Birmingham Sunday Mercury article headed My relationship with Barry George dated 6th December 2008

As referred to in Part 18 of this blog series here, Surjit Singh Clair had stated to David Jones of the DailyMail;

I can tell you there is somebody new, though.

I think there have been three or four meetings

Surjit Singh Clair – Source here

Was the woman Surjit Singh Clair referred to Pam Wright?

During a 2021 channel 5 TV show Pam Wright stated, after realising Steve Wright was a psychopathic serial killer;

He was just a nice, quiet, kind guy

I just, no, no way, I couldn’t believe it.

He wasn’t a violent person

This is my life sentence, I’ll never know the truth… I do honestly think there’s a lot more to the story.

I just didn’t want to wake up, I drank ridiculously and I was on anti-depressants.

Anything just to go to sleep and not think about it

Innocence Fraud Killers Barry George & Sion Jenkins, Portsmouth & The Isle Of Wight Holiday & More On Niamh Horan’s Article For Irish Independent & Fantasist Michelle Diskin Bates #Netflix #WhoKilledJillDando? (Part 21)

Innocence fraud killer Sion Jenkins

Michelle Diskin Bates Fantastical Storytelling

Niamh Horan, who’s 1st of October 2023 article for the Irish independent was referred to in Part 16 here and Part 17 here, also made the following statements – in which she quoted Michelle Diskin Bates;

Following his acquittal, the family — including George — visited the Isle of Wight for a holiday.

She says her brother moved to Ireland not to escape media attention, but “to escape the police”.

“A horrible thing happened to a 16-year-old girl in the area where we were staying.

She was attacked,” Diskin Bates recalls.

“Weeks later I had gone back to Ireland and the [British] police wanted to speak with Barry.”

Diskin Bates says after the Isle of Wight attack her brother’s solicitor had asked the police if George was a suspect and they had said no.

But then, “the police went to my mother’s home anyway where they thought Barry was staying.

“She said, ‘If you want to know what happened, speak to my daughter.’

Nobody ever came near me, but I had to almost secrete Barry out of the country of his birth and get him into Ireland where he would be safe.”

Niamh Horgan for the Irish Independent article headed ‘My brother was cleared of Jill Dando’s murder, but he won’t be free until the real killer is caught’ dated 1st October 2023

As already stated in Part 20 of this blog series here, Barry George spent the night of the 8th August 2008 in a hotel in London.

On the 9th August 2008 he then travelled to Southsea, which is near Portsmouth with his sister Michelle and mother Margaret, where they met up with innocence fraud killer Sion Jenkins and his wife Tina.

Barry George, his sister and mother then travelled across to the Isle of Wight for around thirteen days, where they stayed in the Farringford house hotel.

Michelle Diskin Bates stated that it was Barry Loveday from Portsmouth university who had recommended Farringford house to her. Michelle stated in 2018;

Barry Loveday had suggested a hotel to me on the Isle of Wight. It was on the other side of the island, furthest away from the ferry ports, but that was not the only reason for the recommendation. He had felt that we would benefit from a little luxury, and also the peace and privacy this hotel complex could provide. It would be the perfect retreat for our little family to start getting to know each other again.

Michelle Diskin Bates from her book Stand Against Injustice published in October 2018

There is no evidence anywhere that Barry George was a suspect in relation to the alleged attack on a 16 year-old girl.

However what there was evidence of – was someone (or more than one person) feeding the media with numerous stories.

Birds Of A Feather

A 30th August 2008 media article stated;

Barry George and Sion Jenkins, both wrongly convicted of two of Britain’s most notorious murders, have struck up an unlikely close friendship.

He had vowed to return to his flat in Fulham, South West London, after wrongly serving seven years in jail.

Mr Jenkins, 50, was sentenced to life in 1998 for the murder of his 13-year-old foster daughter Billie-Jo, who was battered to death with a metal tent spike in the garden of their home in Hastings, East Sussex.

He was released on appeal in 2004. Two retrials failed when neither jury could agree a verdict and Mr Jenkins was formally acquitted of murder in February, 2006.

His first wife Lois divorced him after his conviction and moved to Tasmania with their four daughters. After Mr Jenkins’s release he married Tina, a nurse and mother of one, who wrote to him while he was in prison.

She sold her £1million mews home in Belgravia and the couple moved to Southsea.

A source said that Mr Jenkins first met Ms Diskin at a seminar on miscarriages of justice run by Barry Loveday, a reader in criminal justice administration at the University of Portsmouth.

The source added that Mr Jenkins had told Ms Diskin that her brother could stay with him if he needed a place away from media attention after his release.

A spokesman for Mr George said: ‘I am aware they are good friends and I can confirm they have spent time together since Barry’s release.’

Excerpts from a DailyMail article by Daniel Cochlin article headed The Odd Couple: Freed Barry George finds a place to stay… with his friend Sion Jenkins dated 30th August 2008

Another media article stated;

Mr George, who lives in Hackney, East London, is said to have spent a week on holiday with Mr Jenkins on the Isle of Wight last month.

He also stayed at the home Mr Jenkins shares with his second wife Tina in Southsea, Hampshire, for three days.

Last night, the Mail was told it was not a permanent arrangement.

Mr George, who has spent seven years in jail, still plans to move back to Fulham, West London, where Miss Dando was murdered.

Mr George’s spokesman, Surjit Singh Clair, said: ‘The men are friends, I can confirm that. I think the friendship started around six months ago and it was cemented when Barry came out.’

After his release, Mr George admitted he could not have shot dead Miss Dando on the doorstep of her Fulham home, as he was stalking another woman at the time.

Two weeks ago, the convicted sex attacker was stopped and searched by police after making several visits to the BBC Crimewatch presenter’s former home.

Excerpts from a DailyMail article headed Barry George find himself a friend in Sion Jenkins dated 1st September 2008

How Long Was Surjit Singh Clair Stirring Things Up For?

Surjit Singh Clair’s name came up in further media articles around this time, including one in which it was stated Barry George had visited his “murder scene twice;”

Last night George’s agent confirmed he had visited the murder scene twice since his release.

Surjit Singh Clair said: “Yes, it’s true Barry has been back to Gowan Avenue twice.

“In his mind he wants to clear what he says are the demons from his past.

“His supporters have also urged him to do it, saying it would be a healthy thing to do for him to help him move on with his life.

“Friday was a routine stop and search in Hackney, nothing more.

“Earlier he had been to Fulham to see a friend but wouldn’t tell me any more I’m afraid.”

Barry George: I’ve been back there twice dated 24th August 2008

There was also an article written by David Jones for the DailyMail in which Surjit Singh Clair had again stated Barry George had mentioned visiting his victims “grave a few times”.

David Jones also referred to receiving an “angry email” from Michelle Diskin Bates.

Excerpts from David Jones article read;

During the interview he gave (or rather sold for £80,000) to a down-market tabloid after his release, George insisted he was never fixated with the 37-year-old star, as the prosecution had alleged.

Yet if George wasn’t obsessed with Jill at the time she was murdered, he certainly is now.

He spends hour upon hour poring over books and websites about her  –  and, now, with a breathtaking lack of insight into the likely furore, he aims to travel 150miles from London to the West Country.

‘Barry has mentioned visiting the grave a few times,’ his spokesman Surjit Singh Clair told me this week.

‘It’s something he definitely wants to do. He just feels there’s a connection between them  –  they’ve been tragically brought together.’

George has also discussed his plans with his confidante, his sister, Michelle Diskin.

‘Barry spent eight years in jail for a murder he didn’t do,’ Mr Singh Clair said.

‘He’s become entwined with her life and she has played a huge part in his. He wants to exorcise Jill’s ghost, and say: “I don’t want you to think I hold any hard feelings against you.”

Regrettably, it is. George’s spokesman says he might request permission from Jill’s family  –  and if so, he could receive a surprisingly favourable reaction.

For with remarkable magnanimity, Nigel Dando said that he would not object to the visit. ‘It might give Mr George cause to ponder and reflect,’ he said, when told of George’s plans.

‘If he looks respectable and takes flowers, and perhaps goes with a friend or relative rather than slinking around on his own, then it wouldn’t look too bad. It’s his personal choice.’

Mr Singh Clair is a Midlands-based freelance journalist who was enlisted by the Miscarriages of Justice Organisation (MOJO) to promote George’s cause four years ago, when he was battling to overturn his murder conviction.

He brokered the £80,000 interview deal after George’s acquittal, and he is now among the trusted inner circle who proffer assistance to George…

Others in ‘Team Barry’ include his sister, who flits between London and her home in Cork, his careworn 72-year-old mother, Margaret, and an old friend named Robert Charig, who can’t work because he suffers a neurological complaint, and so has time to dispense sympathy and homespun advice.

Fringe members of the coterie include Sion Jenkins, who was cleared of murdering his own 13-year-old foster daughter Billie-Jo in 2006, after serving six years of a life sentence.

This week, Mr Jenkins denied reports that George has stayed at his Hampshire home, but admitted having met him and lent his support.

Meanwhile, a few weeks later, a 26-year-old woman complained to the police that a man fitting George’s description had pestered her as she served in an upmarket speciality tea and coffee shop in West London.

The most recent story surfaced only last weekend.

George was reported to have cycled seven miles across London in the rain to the HQ of Sky News, marched in unannounced and insisted on meeting the woman who interviewed him after his release  –  glamorous news anchor Kay Burley.

George’s people dismiss all these damaging claims as a concoction of lies and half-truths.

Their man was on a pelican crossing when he was stopped on suspicion of ‘casing’ cars in Hackney, they say. He has complained to the Independent Police Complaints Commission, and two of his support workers, who just happened to be watching, will be his witnesses.

In an angry email to me this week, Michelle Diskin claimed her brother was the victim of a media-driven plot designed to smear and intimidate him.

Up To His Old Tricks

Surjit Singh Clair who was referred to in Part 16 here was said to be the worse offender of the three men who faked a racial attack back in 2000.

Excerpts from a media article read;

The judge said Clair’s behaviour was worse because he tried to make a “significant personal profit” by selling the story.

The Express newspaper agreed to pay £6,000 to Clair for the tale of the attack, but the money was never handed over after police became suspicious of Cotter’s claims.

Excerpts by Chris Gray for the Independent article headed Olympian’s boyfriend jailed for fake attack dated 9th June 2001

Excerpts from another article read;

The story of extreme racial prejudice appalled the country.

But it was not true.

Cotter had set up the assault himself in a bizarre plan to revive the couple’s relationship.

The plot backfired when a jury at Birmingham crown court found him and his co-defendants, Craig Wynn and Surjit Singh Clair, guilty of conspiring to pervert the course of justice.

Not only did he waste weeks of police time, but he made the woman he hoped to marry fear for her life.

Excerpts by Tania Branigan & Paul Kelso for the Guardian article headed Racial repercussions of bid to rekindle affair dated 9th June 2001

Surjit Singh Clair was involved with killer Barry George’s innocence fraud spin campaign for over 4 years. He was described as a “freelance journalist who was enlisted by MOJO to promote George’s cause”.

Surjit Singh Clair was sat next to uncle Mike Burke inside the Old Bailey on the 1st August 2008, which was the day the jury delivered their not guilty verdict following Barry George’s retrial.

Mike Burke, Barry George, Susan Young and David Wacks, who was Barry George’s new solicitor (and a colleague of solicitor Jeremy Moore’s), got a black cab from the Old Bailey to a nearby hotel.

Excerpts from Mike Burke’s book read;

A photograph later published by the Daily Mail shows the tension etched on all our faces, we looked bloody awful.

The unknown taxi driver did a brilliant job and asked no questions.

Many months later when I viewed Sky News footage I was amused that at the very moment when Michelle was expressing her heartfelt thanks to MOJO whose members were there with her on camera Susan Young, Mr Wacks and I were whisking Barry away in the dramatic dash to freedom, and no MOJO.

……………………………………………………..
The relaxed happy mood soon changed as Serj began engaging intensely with Mr Wacks.

Mr Wacks had understood that he would be discussing media plans with Barry only in an unhurried relaxed manner over a few days but now Serj was saying that as it was Friday there was pressure to get something out for the Sunday papers.

Mr Wacks was very annoyed at Serj’s unexpected intrusion and expressed his unhappiness to me.

Eventually a frustrated looking Serj said that all contracts were lost apart from one with the News of the World.

That did not come as any surprise to me as I had been told by a contact some time earlier that just such a contract had been lined up and so I felt that these negotiations were just a smokescreen.

The deal was done and it was just a matter of getting Barry to sign.

I was dismayed to watch as his happy mood was replaced by a confused puzzled demeanour as he tried to make sense of the intense change which had come over all of us.

I knew that things were now falling apart.

I found it hard to believe that they were again involving the News of the World after what had happened in 2001, like did they not learn anything from that?

I protested to Serj that we did not want that paper and told him about their 2001 headline ‘The Imp Who Grew into a Devil’, but he said that it was all that was left.

I then took Barry to one side and said that I didn’t mind what he did as long as it was his free choice.

Susan Young then intervened and tried to reassure me that everything would be OK but I was not at all convinced, feeling that history was repeating itself.

I was beat and could only hope that Mr Wacks would ensure that Barry’s interests were looked after.

Michelle, Serj and Mr Wacks then went to another part of the hotel where further negotiations took place; while I remained for a short time with Barry.

……………………………………………………..

The headlines hit me like a slap in the face.

The News of the World article was prefaced with the warnings, OUR LAWYERS ARE WATCHING’.

They described Barry as a ‘BUG-EYED ODD-BALL.’

They claimed he confessed: ‘’I didn’t kill Jill Dando-because I was stalking ANOTHER woman.’’

He was shown posing with the horrible prison issue plastic bag which I had concealed when entering the hotel.

In their ‘World Exclusive’ he was quoted as saying ‘After leaving HAFAD I bumped into a woman who was later a prosecution witness and said I was stalking her…That was at 12.33pm…’

That was obviously a reference to Julia Moorhouse who he had always denied meeting.

Excerpts from uncle Mike Burke’s book Mike’s Story: The Battle to Clear Barry George of the Murder of Jill Dando first published in June 2011

Barry George’s Admissions, Lies, Gaslighting & Lack Of Remorse

Not only did killer Barry George admit to seeing Julia Moorhouse on the day of his murder, he also lied to the Sunday Mirror about the “gunpowder” found in his coat pocket.

Excerpts from a BBC article read;

Mr George told the Sunday Mirror he believed the residue came from armed police entering his flat – but in response, Scotland Yard said no such officers were involved in searches at the address.

“They’re responsible for the gunpowder,” Mr George told the Sunday Mirror.

“I’ve got pictures of police going in my flat with guns – that’s how it got there.”

Scotland Yard said it was not aware of any complaint about officers’ conduct but would investigate should one be made.

A spokesman said: “At the first trial it was suggested that armed officers were at the address, [but] there was no authorisation for armed officers, there was no record of armed officers attending and we strongly refute the suggestion that armed officers were present.”

Excerpts from a BBC news article headed Stalking made me suspect – George dated 3rd August 2008

Surjit Singh Clair put out statements via the Express, the same newspaper he had previously attempted to sell his fake story to, claiming psychopath Barry George was “reformed;”

Barry George is a reformed character who poses no danger to some, it was claimed

Police moves to monitor his behaviour and protect the public will not be necessary, his spokesman said.

Surjit Singh Clair said Mr George, 48, acquitted last week of murdering TV presenter Jill Dando, now realised his past stalking and pestering of women was wrong.

He said: “It was inappropriate. He was lonely at the time and that was the only way he knew to communicate. But he said he has learnt from that and he won’t be doing that kind of thing again. It’s a case of self-policing for Barry. He now realises it is wrong.”

Mr Clair was speaking after it emerged officials want to keep a close eye on Mr George amid fears over his former lifestyle. Police, prison and probation staff are discussing whether they can put in place special supervision arrangements.

The set of arrangements, known as Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements, involves agencies sharing information on how they can best manage violent and sexual offenders.

But sources said several legal hurdles remain as Mr George has not been convicted of an offence for more than 20 years. Officials believe Mr George could be made subject to the same terms because of his admissions and police evidence of his disturbing past behaviour.

Excerpts from an Express article headed George ‘poses no danger to women’ dated 5th August 2008

Lie Detector Test & Gas Mask/Gun Photo

Barry George was quoted as claiming that “the photograph showing a man holding a handgun and wearing a gas mask found at his flat, was not him, even though it had been established before his 2001 trial that it was.

The Times reported here that Barry George was “considering legal action” over the photo of him in the gas mask and holding a gun.

Whilst Surjit Singh Clair was claiming “early discussions” about a lie detector test were taking place;

Surjit Singh Clair, George’s spokesman, said yesterday:

‘Barry has still got to decide if he is going to go on a council’s housing list or whether he is going to find private accommodation.

‘The one thing he won’t do is hide. He’s a free man and he’ll be happy to show his face in public.’

Mr Clair said ‘early discussions’ were also under way for George to take a lie detector test, which he has insisted he wants to do.

Excerpts from an Evening Standard article headed Taxpayers fork out £50,000 a year to keep tabs on Barry George dated 5th August 2008

Referring to the first few days after Barry George’s August 2008 retrial, Michelle Diskin Bates stated in 2018;

Back on the Isle of Wight, we were still battling to get the newspaper to pay Barry for his exclusive interview.

Barry’s new solicitor, Mr Wacks, wanted him to take a lesser amount.

He had spoken with the paper’s representatives and they said they would pay a sixth of the fee, or a bit more if Barry would submit to a lie detector test.

I was utterly outraged that his solicitor would even think this was acceptable!

I turned it down flat, but later ran the idea by Dr Young, who emphatically agreed with me.

……………………………………………………..

The News of the World had relented and decided they would pay Barry his full fee, thanks to the Trojan efforts of Surj Singh Clair.

Barry’s own solicitor had been unable to do anything to help Barry, though he still received his fifteen percent.

Surj, of course, did not earn a penny from Barry for his efforts, because he was representing MOJO and not himself.

Michelle Diskin Bates – October 2018

On the 10th August 2008 a Mirror article headed LIGHTS. . CAMERA . .CASH-IN stated;

Cleared Barry George is to cash in on the Jill Dando murder by selling movie rights to his story for a staggering £330,000.

George’s agent Surjit Singh Clair said: “We have been approached by Devon Films. I can’t confirm Barry’s cut but it will easily run into six figures.”

Excerpts from a Mirror article headed LIGHTS. . CAMERA . .CASH-IN dated 10th August 2008

By October 2008 Surjit Singh Claire was telling the media that Barry George was apparently meeting up with a woman, stating;

I can tell you there is somebody new, though.

I think there have been three or four meetings.

She’s about the same age as Barry  –  and he’s very excited about it.

But I’m always cautious of these people because she obviously knows who Barry is and that he’s going to get a lot of money.

He’s been advised to be careful and keep himself in check.

We don’t want him in some kind of trap.

Questions For Innocence Fraud “M25 Three” Killer Raphael Rowe About Michelle Diskin Bates Following The Netflix Docu Series Who Killed Jill Dando? (Part 14)

Raphael Rowe

Did Michelle Diskin Bates Really “Reach Out” To Killer Raphael Rowe Like He Claimed?

During Part 3 of the Who Killed Jill Dando? docu series, innocence fraud killer Raphael Rowe stated (at around 38:23);

A few years after Barry George was convicted his sister reached out to me

She was asking if I could help highlight the fact that her brother was wrongly in prison

I was at BBC Panorama at the time

But when I was 20 years old I was wrongly convicted of murder and a series of robberies

I spent the next 12 years in maximum security prisons

And Michelle was convincing, you know she sounded like my sister did when my sister was saying ‘help my brother’

Statements by Raphael Rowe via Part 3 of Who Killed Jill Dando?

Scammer Michelle Diskin Bates has made no mention over the years of having reached out to Raphael Rowe.

Why Did Raphael Rowe Omit To Mention Scott Lomax & Uncle Mike Burke?

However Michelle’s and killer Barry George’s uncle Mike Burke (also spelt Bourke) told a different story to the one told by Raphael Rowe.

Mike Burke made the following statements in a book, which detailed his involvement with “Justice4Barry” and Raphael Rowe;

2004
On September 5th I read an e-mail from Scott Lomax telling me about a BBC reporter, Raphael Rowe, who hoped to make a programme about Barry.

I made some discreet enquiries and I was told that ‘He is a good guy, genuine’.

I was happy with that recommendation and decided to contact him.

I phoned him the next day and we had a good long chat.

He was quite up to speed having looked at the websites and appeal court links.

I agreed to contact Barry and his solicitor to see if they might cooperate with a TV programme.

I later spoke to Pat Reynolds who was very enthusiastic when I mentioned Panorama, saying that Panorama could be seen as a turning point, the beginning of the end.

I next visited Barry on Friday October 8th.

I was suffering from a heavy cold, and family tensions were again running high, otherwise the visit went ok.

I got fish and chips and had quiet a miserable evening. ‘Why the hell am I doing this?’ I wondered, not for the first time.

The next day I went to a National Miscarriage of Justice meeting at Conway Hall in Red Lion Square.

When I arrived there were a number of people waiting outside.

I was a little early and waited some distance from them.

A good looking young woman approached me and struck up a conversation.

She quickly guessed that I was connected to Barry, which made me suspect that she was a reporter.

She told me that her husband was in prison for murder but that he was innocent.

To make it better she said that he allegedly had eaten the body of the victim.

I didn’t quite know what to make of her.

I met Hazel from MOJO and we chatted awhile.

The Hall opened and we went in.

I got a cup of tea and then I met Raphael Rowe.

Scott Lomax texted me to say that he had arrived.

He brought along copies of his book on Barry.

It was interesting to meet Scott and Raphael and I hoped meeting Raphael would help to maintain his interest in the case.

2005
I drove to London on Monday the 31st.

I had hoped to visit Barry on Tuesday and Margaret had promised that she would book it in good time.

But she waited until Monday before phoning to book the visit.

She then discovered that there were no visits allowed on Tuesdays.

I was going to a public meeting in the House of Commons on Wednesday and so I had to wait until Thursday to visit him which lost me another precious day’s holiday.

It was a short visit as his solicitor was also due to visit.

Barry was somewhat stressed out as a result.

He was concerned again that some of us would speak to the press.

He got agitated when I told him that Raphael Rowe was interested in the Cutting Edge video, which I had in fact already loaned to Raphael along with a video of the trial reconstruction.

He threatened to sue anybody who might use the Cutting Edge video.

I e-mailed Raphael Rowe asking about news on a documentary.

He replied that Barry and his solicitor had made demands that Raphael could not comply with.

Supporting Barry was often a struggle against the odds, as he seemed to see problems with everything we did or tried to do for him.

I felt that a good opportunity was in danger of being lost and I decided to keep in touch with Raphael in the hope of some development.

July 8th 2006

I recently had to have the hard drive replaced on my computer which cost me 205 Euro.

David James Smith is due to visit Barry early this month if all goes well.

Raphael Rowe is in America researching for a BBC documentary on Barry. He is consulting experts with regard to the single particle.

He phoned me up last week seeking Michelle’s details which he had mislaid.

On July 20 Andy Gardner phoned me. He told me he was now a freelance reporter.

Later Margaret phoned to say that the VO had arrived.

The next day I got a call from a Mail on Sunday reporter, Mr Rice who asked if he came to Ireland would I speak to him.

I agreed and he said he would be over the next day.

I then became a little concerned as I was due to visit Barry and wondered if speaking to the reporter would cause another row.

Fortunately he had also called to Michelle which I thought might take the flak off me.

The report appeared on Sunday and referred to the Panorama programme which was being made by Raphael Rowe.

It mentioned two jurors who were having doubts and who apparently were willing to appear on the programme.

It also mentioned that FBI agents criticised the Met Polices handling of the single particle evidence.

On Monday Raphael asked me not to discuss the programme with MOJO.

I replied that I had fallen out with them in 2001 due to the News of the World article.

But I feared that a last minute hitch might have negative consequences and so I texted Michelle asking her to urge discretion on MOJO.

She replied that they hadn’t known about the programme.

On Thursday August 3rd I again went to London.

It was a good trip, uneventful except for a poor man who finally cracked after over three hours in the ‘quiet’ coach listening to a hyperactive loud child.

On Friday I went to Mario’s café for breakfast.

Later Raphael Rowe phoned Margaret and I spoke to him.

Unknown to us on September 4th a Forensic Science Service report prepared for the CCRC dismissed the FDR evidence which dammed Barry as inconclusive.

In their opinion it provided no support for the prosecutions case that Barry had killed Jill Dando.

It would be another year before we became aware of that.

Raphael Rowe phoned me to say that the Panorama-George programme would be broadcast on September 5th.

I took a day’s holiday to watch it because as luck would have it I was on a late shift and I feared I would not get to see it.

At 21.00 I settled down to watch Panorama.

It began with Raphael saying to Barry over Margaret’s telephone ‘so you didn’t kill Jill?’ …’course not, replied a surprised Barry.

Then the photo of Barry which I got taken at Whitemoor was shown alongside the prison envelope in which it was returned to me after the prison refused to allow Barry to have it.

CCTV footage of Jill Dando on her last journey and a clip of 29 Gowan Avenue was shown, and Helen Doble’s 999 phone call was played.

How Did Richard Madeley Come To The Conclusion That Dangerous & Prolific Sex Offender, Serial Stalker & Fraudster Barry George Was “A Relatively Harmless Eccentric”? #WhoKilledJillDando (Part 12)

Richard Madeley

Cold Blooded Assassin

During Part 3 of Who Killed Jill Dando? (at around 35:20 ) Richard Madeley was seen and heard stating;

Well as Barry George begins his life sentence this morning for the murder of Jill Dando

Many people are contemplating what turned him, from what appeared to be a relatively harmless eccentric, into an astonishingly cold blooded assassin

Richard Madeley

How on earth did anyone come to the conclusion that unpredictable murderer, dangerous sex offender and serial stalker of women Barry George was “a relatively harmless eccentric”?

Give It Up Michael Mansfield – The Grift Is Up! #WhoKilledJillDando? (Part 10)

Lone Gunman

During Part 3 of Who Killed Jill Dando? (at around 18:47) Michael Mansfield stated;

It cannot have been a lone gunman

Michael Mansfield

That’s exactly what and who it was!

The ill man, the loner

The infatuated

The psychopath

The disturbed

The obsessed

Barry George fit that category

Hamish Campbell

Michael Mansfield then went on to state;

He’d have to have had the loaded gun on him ready to fire

And be crouched in the front garden

So that she didn’t see that he was there

Well he’d have to be there for hours

Doesn’t add up

Michael Mansfield

Evidence demonstrated that it did add up;

Jonathan Laidlaw QC, prosecuting, said Dando’s death had been the result of the actions of “a loner, a man acting alone with no rational motive to kill”.

He said George, 48, had a history of complex medical problems and had told police he had a “personality disorder”.

Laidlaw told the jury the defendant would approach women and try to find out where they lived and what type of car they drove.

“Some of the witnesses provide evidence that Barry George, having discovered where they lived, also spent time waiting in the area and observing their addresses; on occasions, that he was present outside watching when they arrived back at their homes.”

Excerpts by Haroon Siddique for the Guardian article headed Barry George trial: Lone stalker killed Jill Dando, court told dated 9th June 2008

Eyewitness Susan Mayes

Susan Mayes picked killer Barry George out during a video identity parade.

A media article from June 2008 read;

Susan Mayes

The man accused of Jill Dando’s murder was seen ‘staring’ at her home just hours before she was shot dead on her doorstep, a court heard yesterday.

A neighbour of the BBC presenter told the Old Bailey she saw Barry George looking at the house that morning.

City trader Susan Mayes picked out George, 48, in a video ID parade 18 months later. ‘I saw the defendant,’ she told jurors yesterday. ‘I was certain that was the person I had seen.’

She said that when George realised she was watching him, he looked at the ground and tried to hide his face.

Miss Mayes was going to work around 7am on April 26 1999 when she spotted a ‘scruffy’ man on the opposite side of Gowan Avenue.

‘I saw the defendant,’ she told the court. ‘He was standing on the north side of the road next to a car that was double parked.’

She went on: ‘When I first noticed him he was staring at the houses on the left hand side of the road. I recall he was looking at the houses either side of him.

‘I remember him turning round to look at the houses on my side of the road.

‘As I got nearer to him he started cleaning his windscreen in a strange way. He was looking at the ground.’

She showed how he covered his face with his arm, and was not looking at what he was cleaning, nor using a cloth.

‘I thought this man doesn’t want to be seen. I thought it was odd.

‘As I drew up alongside him I was looking at him and carried on looking at him for a few seconds afterwards.’

Miss Mayes said the man was around 5ft 10in tall, stocky, of ‘Mediterranean’ appearance, with shoulder length black or dark brown hair.

She said he wore a dark suit, white shirt with an open neck and no tie. ‘I got the impression he was quite scruffy.’

Miss Mayes picked George out of an identity parade in October 2000.

This is George’s second trial for the murder. The prosecution alleges George was a loner who had obsessions with celebrities and guns, and a grudge against the BBC.

Excerpts by Fiona Barton for the DailyMail article headed Dando accused was ‘acting suspiciously outside her house hours before she was killed dated 17th June 2008

An Injustice In The Making

Michael Mansfield then stated during Who Killed Jill Dando? (at around 19:21);

I realised that this was an injustice in the making

Ain’t that the truth!

It’s No Mystery Who Killed Jill Dando! (Part 5)

Assassin Barry George

On the 26th of April 1999 Jill Dando (37) was murdered by sexual predator, serial stalker, rapist and assassin Barry George.

Barry George shot Jill Dando whilst she was on the doorstep of her home in Gowan avenue Fulham, which is in Southwest London.

A jury found Barry George guilty of his murder on the 2nd July 2001.

Murderer Barry George

Not long after Barry George was found guilty, he confessed to his murder in 2002.

In the same year he confessed to his murder, Barry George appealed his conviction but his appeal was dismissed.

However on the 20th June 2007 the fraudsters at the criminal cases review commission referred Barry George’s murder conviction to the court of appeal.

The court of appeal went on to deem Barry George’s murder conviction “unsafe” and ordered a re-trial.

On the 9th June 2008 he stood trial for a second time and on the 1st August 2008 Barry George was found not guilty.

A not guilty verdict does not equate to actual, factual innocence.

Less than two years after they referred killer Barry George’s murder conviction to the court of appeal, the fraudsters at the criminal cases review commission referred the murder conviction of killer Simon Hall.

The Truth Behind Actual, Factual, Guilty Killer Simon Hall & His & His Deceitful Enablers Innocence Fraud Phenomenon Scam blog series goes into some of the facts of this innocence fraud.

Michael Mansfield

Michael Mansfield

Michael Mansfield, who first represented killer Barry George during his appeal also represented killer Simon Hall.

Fibre evidence, which was one of the factors which helped convict killer Simon Hall, still links Barry George to his murder.

Gun shot residue matching the gunshot residue found at Barry George’s crime scene also still links him to his murder.

Michael Naughton

Michael Naughton, who campaigned for and represented killer Simon Hall when their innocence fraud was exposed in 2012/13, went on to write the foreword of killer Barry George’s sister’s book.

Michelle Diskin Bates

Assassin Barry George & his sister Michelle Diskin Bates

Michelle Diskin Bates, who appears to be a deluded fantasist similar to her killer brother, has gone on to align herself with numerous other dangerous murderers, including mass murderer, child killer and rapist Jeremy Bamber.

In August 2016 liar and fantasist Michelle Diskin Bates made the claim she was watching nighttime TV back in August 1985 – even though nighttime TV did not exist in the UK until 1986.

Michelle Diskin Bates stated here;

It was well after midnight on August 6th 1985 and I couldn’t sleep. Switching on the T.V., I absent-mindedly tuned into a news channel. We were living in Co. Cork, in Southern Ireland, and I was joyfully awaiting the birth of our first child who was already overdue, making me feel restless; that was why I was up and about at such an hour.

Becoming aware of a breaking-news story I began to listen in more closely. A siege was taking place at a farmhouse in England. The broadcaster relayed that five people were inside and there was great fear for their safety. As the story unfolded it became apparent that this was an older couple. A farmer and retired Magistrate, Nevill Bamber and his wife, June; their daughter, Sheila, and her six year old twin sons. Jeremy, their son, was outside with police who were trying to communicate with someone inside the house who had been seen pacing back and forth in front of an upstairs window and carrying a firearm. The reporter said that police were reluctant to get too close to the house for fear of causing that person to become more agitated, thereby, escalating the danger to the family. I watched for an hour or so but there was no resolution and, heavily pregnant, I became exhausted and had to go off to bed

Michelle Diskin Bates

When Barry George was released from custody, following his 2008 re-trial, he was placed under MAPPA (multi-agency public protection arrangements) restrictions due to his dangerousness, especially towards women.

Killer Simon Hall: Michael Naughton, 2005, Bristol University Innocence Project, Innocence Network UK, Barry Scheck, Peter Neufeld, Stephanie Bon, Killers Barry George & Michael Stone, Mike Burke/Bourke & “Justice for Barry”, The Illusory Truth Effect, Coercive Persuasion, Gaslighting & Murder Confessions – Part 17g©️

Michael Naughton & Bristol University Innocence Project

Michael Naughton who is referred to in previous Parts of this blog series and who is also mentioned on page 11 of the criminal cases review commissions statement of reasons here (Under the title of UoBIP = university of Bristol innocence project), works at Bristol university and he became involved with actual, factual guilty killer Simon Hall’s innocence fraud spin campaign early on.

Michael Naughtin’s online bio here reads in part;

…his work, which specialises on the problem of ‘miscarriages of justice’, with a particular focus on the wrongful conviction and/or imprisonment of factually innocent victims.

Michael Naughton decided to start an innocence project in 2004 the year after he had submitted his PhD thesis, which he chose to call Miscarriages of justice : exception to the rule?

The innocence project, referred to by some people as the innocence ‘fraudject’ due to the high number of guilty killers and rapists it helps free from prison, was based on the American version of the innocence project, co-founded by American lawyers Barry Scheck and Peter Neufeld in 1992.

Stephanie Bon

It is not known exactly when Stephanie Bon first made contact with Michael Naughton and if Stephanie, or manipulative killer Simon Hall, wrote to Michael after hearing about the launch of Bristol university’s innocence project.

However a 2005 media story indicated Michael Naughton had been contacted by many killers, including the killer of Jill Dando; serial stalker, rapist and predatory sex offender Barry George, as well as “the family” of sadistic serial killer and psychopath Michael Stone.

Both killers were referred to in Part 17d, which can be read by tapping on the button below;

2005

Excerpts from the 2005 media story which centred on Michael Naughton and his “frustrations” with the criminal cases review commission (Referred to in Part 15 here) read;

The shelf above Mike Naughton’s desk in Bristol University’s law school is heaving with files of letters from prisoners who claim they were wrongly convicted and want help.

“It shows just how desperate so many people are”

says Naughton, a lecturer in criminal law.

“They have got nobody else to turn to so they are prepared to put their futures in the hands of a project led by university students. It really is quite disturbing”

Naughton’s office has become the bustling nerve centre of the University of Bristol’s Innocence Project which aims to provide free assistance to the victims of miscarriages of justice languishing in prison.

Students have been giving up their free time to sort through the mountain of correspondence.

“They should be out drinking or chasing the opposite sex but they are here getting stuck in” says Naughton

Barry George, the man convicted of killing the television presenter Jill Dando, has written to the project.

Naughton has also had contact with the family of Michael Stone, who has twice been convicted of murdering Lin and Megan Russell and whose latest appeal failed in January.

Many other notorious figures – Naughton will not name names – have been in touch.

Over the coming months and years undergraduates will work with local criminal lawyers, who are giving their time for free, on five cases which they believe stand a chance of being referred to the appeal court.

Naughton hopes that the six-month-old Bristol project will be the first of many to be launched at universities across the UK to create an “innocence network” of students working to free prisoners they believe have been wrongly convicted.

“It’s still very early days but we think there is a gap in the present system which needs to be filled”, he says.

Innocence projects are active in the US, Canada and Australia.

The best known was co-founded in 1992 by Barry Scheck, one of the lawyers who represented OJ Simpson at his trial.

Jill Dando’s Killer Barry George & His Confession To His Murder

Like killers Simon Hall and Michael Stone, Barry George used numerous aliases, including the alias Barry Bulsara.

Killer Simon Hall had used the name James Shiperlee, which was noted on his prison files;

Screenshot of Simon Hall’s HMP Wayland prison ’patient’ records

Like killer Simon Hall, killer Barry George was reported to have gone on to admit to his guilt to his murder of Jill Dando, as was reported here and here.

Also like killer Simon Hall’s immediate family members (Lynne, Phil and Shaun Hall) and others, killer Barry George’s uncle Mike Burke and his sister Michelle Diskin Bates chose to deny killer Barry George’s murderous crime and instead made excuses for him, his personality and his behaviours.

Excerpt’s from a 2002 Mirror newspaper story here reported some of killer Barry George’s uncle Mike Burke’s excuses;

Mike Burke (left) photographed alongside fraudster and con artist Surjit Singh Clair

Uncle Mike Bourke (sic) said:

“He was warned people might try and tape his conversations or put words into his mouth.

“I just don’t think Barry would say anything like this. It is complete fiction. He has been on his guard.”

Mike, of Co Limerick, Ireland, added:

“He has been a bit depressed lately because he knows a lot hinges on it. But he has done nothing to make his family doubt he is innocent”

However Mike Burke stated in the book he went on to write and publish;

On Sunday April 7th I heard on BBC Radio 4 news that the News of the World had a cassette tape of Barry allegedly confessing to the murder.

I bought the paper and read the story which I found difficult to believe.

It alleged that Barry said to other prisoners

’…because I was the man who committed the murder’.

I phoned the number given and listened to the tape recording which sounded like Barry though the sound quality was very poor.

I had warned him that something like that could happen.

The source of the tape was a by then deported Polish thief who claimed he used his tape recorder to record fellow prisoners’ music

Excerpt by Mike Burke from his book Mike’s Story: Barry George & the Jill Dando murder;

Mike Burke headed up the fraudulent public relations spin campaign to free his murdering, serial stalker and predatory rapist nephew Barry George.

However Mike Burke did state in his book he harboured doubts about his nephew’s behaviour, evidenced by his following statement;

I was again concerned he was trying to threaten me.

This type of behaviour undermined my belief in him

Exceprt from Mike Burke’s book Mike’s Story: Barry George & the Jill Dando murder

2002: Michelle Diskin

In 2002 a Scottish organisation, which was set up by one* of the six IRA terrorists who was convicted for the murders of twenty one people, and injuring 182 people, following two pub bombings, published Barry George’s sister Michelle Diskin’s excuse for her killer brother Barry George having admitted to his murder of Jill Dando.

A screenshot of Michelle Diskin’s published excuse is reproduced below;

Screenshot of ‘Justice for Barry George’ propaganda (The original can be found here)

*Three of the six men who were convicted of the 1974 Birmingham pub bombings admitted to being members of the IRA and also admitted to having planted the bombs.
In 1987 all six men had their murder convictions deemed “unsafe and unsatisfactory” by the court of appeal, but to date all six men have been unsuccessful in proving their innocence.

Similarly to killers Simon Hall and Michael Stone, Mike Burke wrote about a suicide attempt his nephew Barry George had made a couple of months after he was found guilty for his murder of Jill Dando.

On the 16th of September 2001 there was a story published in the Mail on Sunday, and according to Mike Burke here, a prisoner by the name of Daniel Reece had saved killer Barry George from an “alleged hanging attempt”.
