TEMPLATE EMAIL/LETTER

To whom it may concern,

I wish to make a freedom of information request for a copy of the transcript of detective constable (DC) Alan Towers evidence heard in open court on the 20th December 2004 during the public trial of the convicted murderer of 14 year old Jodi Jones.

Convicted murderer Luke Muir Mitchell (dob: 24th July 1988) committed his murder on the 30th June 2003 and was subsequently found guilty by a jury on the 21st January 2005 at Edinburgh high court.

His 22 page witness statement, which he made on the 1st July 2003, was read out in open court on the 20th December 2004 by DC Alan Towers but the journalists who reported from the trial only reported snippets of DC Towers evidence.

I also wish to request copies of the transcripts of advocate depute Alan Turnbull’s opening and closing speeches to the jury, along with Donald Findlay’s opening and closing speeches to the jury and also a copy of the transcript of Lord Nimmo Smith’s summing up to the jury.

Again the journalists who reported on the trial only ever reported brief snippets from any of the above.

I am of the view my request for copies of this recorded information will allow the public to be better informed and more productive and improve public confidence and trust in the Scottish judicial system.

Yours faithfully,
