On the 24th July 2023, under the header Karen Read case to be highlighted on upcoming ‘Dateline’ episode, Marc Fortier published a story for NBC Bay Area in which he stated;

A portion of an exclusive interview with Mansfield, Massachusetts resident Karen Read and “Dateline” correspondent Dennis Murphy aired on Monday’s “TODAY” show on NBC, a day before she is scheduled to appear in court for a pretrial hearing.

She is charged with second-degree murder in the death of O’Keefe, her boyfriend and a Boston police officer.

In a clip from the Dateline TV show (Watch below), Dennis Murphy states;

Karen says they pulled up to the house

And she waited in her SUV

While John went to check things out

She says she watched him go to the door

Put his head inside

Then nothing

Did Karen Read say this to Dennis Murphy, or did he add his own spin to her false narrative?

The evidence suggests as soon as Karen Read struck John O’Keefe with her SUV she immediately drove off!

Karen Read stated;

I texted him

I called him

And within minutes of him exiting my car he’s not answering my phone

She again lied and replied;

I left

Killer Karen Read left immediately having struck John O’Keefe with her SUV and she did NOT text John’s phone until 12:55:31am, writing “Im going home”, referring to her home in Mansfield;

12:40:31am – Jennifer McCabe texted John O’Keefe “Hello” Exhibit 89 Jennifer said she then went back to the front door & at this point said she could not be certain if John & Karen Read were still out front or if they had left

12:41am – After being charged with killing John O’Keefe (2nd degree murder) in June 2022, this is the time Karen Read went on to allege she arrived back at John O’Keefe’s house & left him a voicemail. She alleged in this voicemail the garage door could be heard “closing, the car door closing, the house door closing, while she walked in her high heels on the garage floor”

12:41:35am – John O’Keefe’s phone received a voicemail (#2) from Karen Read which recorded what sounded like the noise of her SUV’s “auditory cues”, followed by a door shutting, footsteps & again a door shutting (Listen to the noises heard on the voicemail via the evidence of trooper Nicholas Guarino here & read p.4 here & p.38 here)

12:42:09am – Jennifer McCabe texted John O’Keefe’s phone “Where are u?” (Listen to Jennifer here)

12:45am – Jennifer McCabe texted John O’Keefe “Hello”

12:45am – This is the time Karen Read first indicated on 29th January 2022 she last saw John O’Keefe “Read told investigators she dropped O’Keefe off around 12:45 a.m, made a three-point turn and left, but did not see O’Keefe go inside the house” (p.27 here) When she was asked by investigators what happened to her damaged taillight she stated “I don’t know it happened last night”

**In July 2023 Dennis Murphy for NBC’s Dateline TV show stated “Karen says they pulled up to the house & she waited in her SUV while John went to check things out. She says she watched him go to the door, put his head inside, then nothing” Karen stated “I texted him, I called him & within minutes of him exiting my car he’s not answering, minutes” Dennis Murphy asked her “What happens next” to which Karen again lied & stated “I left” (Watch here)**

Karen Read’s lying lawyer David Yannetti stated in September 2022 “Ms Read has always maintained that she drove her boyfriend, Mr O’Keefe, to drop him off at the Albert residence on the night in question. According to Ms Read, once there, Mr O’Keefe exited the vehicle to confirm they were at the right house. Ms Read waited for him for quite some time, but he never returned. After calling him several times with no answer, she eventually left, presuming he proceeded into the house for the party” (p.6 here)
